Today, I was sitting in my room and decided to pop in my A Static Lullaby mixtape. While lying there on my bed, gentley humming along to lipgloss and letdown, i noticed that almost every song on my mixtapes were about being hung up on a girl. i'd noticed it before, but this was the first time i realized i couldn't really relate to any of the lyrics because i've never been in love (that and i'm a girl so i don't think i could get hung up on one.lol). it made me feel like i was in a void. all these 'emo' songs revolved around the same idea.
With the fast-growing trend of 'emo' and 'screamo' bands, it's hard to not tune into the radio w/o listening to a song about a relationship gone sour. it's a shame because the thing that compelled me to this particular genre was that it was both romantic and violent which i thought was very daring at the time. I don't think that the heartfelt feel should go, but i think we should build on top of that. we've all been heartbroken and we've all heard songs about it, but why not make music about the aftermath and being a stronger, more idependent person afterwards. there's more to life than a broken heart.
while on the subject of genres, I know this kid at school who thinks he's so bad-ass and cool because he labels himself a 'punk'. it pisses me off because he's so fucking stuck up and is always finding ways to demoralize other people. the irony is that the people he usually picks on are a lot like him, especially music-wise. he's always raving about how everyone else but him is a poseur trying to be 'punk'. I honestly think he's just like everyone else. on the outside he thinks he's an idividual because he has a pink mohawk and wears torn up girls' jeans, but he's exactly the same as the people he claims he rebels.
well, i think i'm finished ranting about useless crap that no one really gives a damn about but me. this was my first entry and i'm sure it sucked. oh well, take care and reamember, don't eat yellow snow!! |
